Why Croatia?
Croatia is in Central Europe, bordering Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, and Bosnia

Dentist Accreditation
All dentists in Croatia study at The School of Dental Medicine in Zagreb,
founded in 1948 as the Department of Odontology within the Medical School this
is the only institution of its kind in Croatia. In 1962 the establishment became
one of the faculties of Zagreb University.
The School of Dental Medicine is dedicated to fostering education and
constantly proactive in research and patient care, with an educational program
not disimilar to other European countries and lasts for five years. They then
have to complete one more year of practice before they take their exams.
Only after graduation is a student entitled DDS or DMD (Doctor of Dental
Surgery, or Doctor of Dental Medicine). Following this it is one year of
internship with professors and authorized practitioners supervising, only after
passing the state examination, finally, a doctor is authorised to practice
dentistry unsupervised. If a doctor wishes for become a specialist in any area
of dentistry (such as Specialist of oral surgery), there are Postgraduate
programs for specialisations that last three to four years.
Many of Croatia,s dentist constantly strive to improve on their knowledge and
education, undergoing training courses all over the world such as The University
of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the Global Institute for Dental Education
(gIDE) which is established by professionals in order to go beyond the ordinary
UCLA schedule running courses in implantology and dentistry in the UCLA
facilities, as well as the Nobel Biocare Centre in Sweden under supervision of
leading world specialists.
It is mandatory that all dentists belong to the Croatian Dental Chamber, the
independent and autonomous professional association of doctors of dental
medicine in Croatia. Other official organisations include the Croatian Society
of Periodontology, the Croatian Medical Association, the Croatian Society for
Dental Implantology and the Croatian Society for Education in Implantology
