Cyprus

Why Cyprus?

Cyprus is a deeply enjoyable holiday island that boasts myriad charms year round. Within one compact and sweepingly attractive island are a variety of rich landscapes and eclectic travel experiences.

Cyprus as a destination is not just about its (admittedly very attractive and impressively clean) beaches, as it also offers skiing and hiking in its voluminous mountains, charming hilltop villages and vine-blessed slopes with nearby towns where you can sample the seriously underrated Cypriot wine. Then there is the sweep of Roman and Greek remnants that scatter the island and sit dramatically amongst its coast and mountains. Moving into the towns and cities, there is a dash of Mediterranean swagger to go with the bright lights and buzzing nightlife.

Doctor Accreditation

As there isn’t a medical university in Cyprus, dentists and cosmetic surgeons are trained at international colleges in the UK or US, and are accredited by international organisations.

Once they receive their Degree in Medicine, cosmetic surgeons go on to study cosmetic surgery and specialise in a particular area such as breast augmentation or rhinoplasty. Official organisations in Cyprus include the Cyprus Society of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery and the Greek Society of Plastic Surgery. Surgeons may be certified members of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (IPRAS). The medical associations for Trichologists are the International Society of Hair Restoration (ISHRS) which provides continuing education to physicians specialising in hair transplant and restoration surgery, and the European Society of Hair Restoration (ESHRS).

To qualify as a dentist, students complete a further three years of postgraduate study after completing their six year Diploma or Degree in Dentistry and specialise in their chosen field, such as a Paediatric Dentist, Orthodontic Dentist or a Periodontist. The main dental organisations are the Cyprus Dental Council (Tel. 00 357 22 316812), the Cyprus Dental Association (Tel. 00 357 22 316812), the Cyprus Periodontal Society, and the Cyprus Orthodontic Society.

The Cyprus Ministry of Health is the governmental body which inspects, oversees and assesses the clinics and hospitals and the Private Doctor’s Association in Cyprus works in association with the government to inspect and approve all private practices. Doctors are accredited by the Cyprus Medical Association (the CMA).

Travel & Accomodation

Cyprus has two international airports, at Larnaca and Pafos, with Larnaca being the main arrival point for international scheduled flights. Larnaca International Airport is located 5km south of the centre and is a 30 minute drive to Nicosia (about 45 km). Pafos International Airport is roughly a seventy minute drive to Nicosia

There are scheduled airlines running daily flights to Larnaca from the UK as well as a range of charter companies running packaged vacation breaks to Cyprus. The flight time is four and a half hours from London to Pafos or Larnaca. Low season return flights with Cyprus Airways are from £178 including taxes. There are more flights in the summer months, and the price increases.
